ARRIVAL
INFORMATION
1.- Do I need a visa?
Upon entry, each tourist is issued a 30, 60 or 90-day tourist
visa. If you plan to stay beyond the 90 days, make sure you
leave the country for 72 hours and then re-enter for a new
90 day visa. Citizens from the European Union, U.S. and
Australia don’t need a visa; other countries please check
with your Peruvian embassy regarding travel requirements as
a traveler from your country.
2.- To whom do I have to communicate my arrival details?
Please email us your flight number, the exact date and time of
arrival, and the city to which you're coming at least one
week before your arrival.
3.- Will somebody pick me up at the airport?
If you choose one of our accomodations (host
family-hostal-flat) the pick up service is included without
extra charge. Please don't forget to tell us your arrival
details and we will make sure that your host family or a
staff member will pick you up. You will see them waiting for
you after customs when you step out of the building. They
will have a sign with your name or "PROYECTO PERÚ CENTRE"
written on it. If you miss your flight please call us at
(0051) 84 9683016 and we will do our best to have somebody
pick you up at the time of your arrival. In case you arrive
early please wait for your pick up. If our pick up does not
show up on time, the driver probably just got stuck in a
traffic jam. Please wait OUTSIDE for 20 minutes; if nobody
has shown up by then please call us. Please do not take a
taxi without informing us. Thanks.
4.- What is the currency in Perú?
Peru's currency is the Nuevo Sol (S/.). One Nuevo Sol is broken
down into 100 céntimos (cents). Banknotes currently
circulating include 200, 100, 50, 20 and 10 Nuevos Soles,
while there are coins for 1, 2 and 5 Nuevos Soles and 50,
20, 10 and 5 cents. You should still change dollars at a
bank or withdraw money from an ATM with your credit card.
But please make sure to have some coins and small bills with
you to pay for taxis and buses, food, etc. Some stores and
bigger hotels accept credit cards, especially in Cusco.
5.- What should I do if my luggage is lost?
If you can't find your luggage you have to fill out a luggage
claim form in the counter of the airline. Please tell the
waiting family what has happened and maybe they can assist
you. In the unlikely case that your luggage has not arrived,
please don't worry. Fill out all the necessary papers and
leave the school's address as well as the contact
information of your host family. We will help you to get
your luggage and assist as your translator if you are not
yet fluent in Spanish.
6.- Which day should I arrive in Cusco?
Try to arrive on a Saturday or Sunday prior to the beginning or
the lessons with PROYECTO PERÚ. But there is no problem if
you arrive any day of the week; we are flexible.
7.- Do you arrange arrival services in Lima?
Yes, PROYECTO PERU offers a Lima Pick Up Package for the
convenience of our students or volunteers. Our Lima agent
will pick you up from the airport and bring you to a nice
and safe hotel for the night. The next day you will be taken
back to the airport for your flight to Cusco. Upon request,
extra days in Lima can be added, e.g. to do the city tour
and/or visit the famous Gold Museum. We will also arrange
your local flight.
