Volunteer work children

Volunteer projects with Children

Kindergarten

You will volunteer in a public kindergarten with children from 3 to 5 years old. The kindergarten is lead by one of the mothers of the community. This mother is trained by the ministry of education and the kindergarten is also supervised by them. Volunteers can assist in improving the children’s' competences and awareness in many areas of personal and social education, such as problem-solving, adjusting behavior to different situations and understanding others. Helping the children in these areas is vital in order to give them the best chance of living independently in the future.

In the kindergarten you will focus on basic education and help to teach numbers and the alphabet, songs, games and sports are also popular activities to help with. You will assist in all kinds of play-work activities, such as arts and crafts, painting, and teaching reading and writing. Or you may wish to take a more observational role and give the children support through providing friendship and assistance.

Childcare

The childcare is part of a NGO in Cusco. The children in this childcare are the children of the mothers who are getting an education in the social project that also forms part of the same NGO. You can take care of the children and babies while their mothers are getting their education. You take care of them and you play with them. This is a few hours a day in the afternoon.

Volunteering with school students

Volunteer work public school

English in a public school
The volunteer works alongside the Peruvian staff to help improve the pronunciation of Standard English. Often the local teachers are very capable at teaching the structural aspects of the English language - such as the grammar - but do not use the correct intonation or pronunciation. By providing Conversational English teaching you can greatly enhance the learning experience and the future prospects of thousands of children and adults with whom we work in the developing world. You will help teaching one or more of five secondary school year groups (11-16 years old).

sports public school volunteeringTeaching sports

you can volunteer as an assistant of the physical education teacher in a public school in Cusco. Giving the children the opportunity to participate in sports, allows them to learn important lessons in working as a team, anger management and prioritizing a healthy lifestyle. Sport can also provide a much-needed distraction from more negative aspects of their lives and for many people from disadvantaged backgrounds, it can offer a way out of poverty and a path of excitement and promise.

The main effort of the students at this school sports placement is to assist teachers from the school with all sporting activities. You can get involved in football, volleyball and basketball as those are the most popular sports in Peru. Tasks can be anything from setting up volleyball courts, taking fitness sessions for athletics, coaching football or volleyball at the training and you can help to coach the children. If you like teaching sports, this is the perfect project for you!

After school project

Volunteering after school project

As a volunteer you can work in an after school project. Public school are only in the mornings or the afternoons, so the children don't attend school full days. That's why it's very important that the kids have a place to go after school. The children go to this project to do their homework, to do activities and to have fun with children of their own age.

A volunteer can help organizing sports and creative activities, help the children with doing their homework and teach them English, hygiene or anything you have a talent for.

Social education project

The project aims to develop skills and abilities of youth and adults with limited economic resources in order to improve their opportunities for integration into the labor market and the conditions to start for themselves. The education project is implemented in the poorer suburbs of the city of Cusco and benefits mainly young people and adults. The training is based on the needs of the market and is not only aimed at generating income, but also on personal development and development within the family and community, and the capacity to self-empowerment and self-confidence.

Volunteers can teach a practical course, English or for example sales for students that want to start their own business. If you have knowledge on a specific field, please contact us for the possibilities.
