Frequently Asked
Questions
ARRIVAL INFORMATION
1.- Do I need a visa?
Upon entry, each tourist is issued a 30, 60 or 90-day tourist visa.
If you plan to stay longer than 90 days, make sure you leave the
country for one day and then re-enter for a new 90 day visa. Citizens
from the European Union, U.S. and Australia don't need a visa. Citizens
from other countries need to check with the local Peruvian embassy
regarding your visa requirements.
2.- To whom should I tell my arrival details?
Please email us your flight number, the exact date and time
of arrival, and the city to which you're coming at least one week
before your arrival.
3.- Will somebody pick me up at the airport?
If you choose one of our accommodation options (host family-hostel-flat),
the pick up service is included without extra charge. Please remember
to tell us your arrival details and we will make sure that your
host family or a staff member picks you up. You will see them waiting
for you just after you pass through customs when you step out of
the building. They will have a sign with your name and "PROYECTO
PERU CENTRE" written on it. If you miss your flight please
call us at (0051) 84 9683016 - 9954184 and we will do our best to
have somebody pick you up at the time of your arrival. In case you
arrive early, please wait for your pick up. If our staff member
does not show up on time, the driver probably just got stuck in
a traffic jam. Please wait OUTSIDE for 20 minutes; if nobody shows
up by then please call us. Please do not take a taxi without informing
us. Thanks.
4.- What is the currency in Perú?
Peru's currency is the Nuevo Sol. One Nuevo Sol is broken down
into 100 céntimos (cents). Banknotes currently circulating
include 200, 100, 50, 20 and 10 Nuevos Soles. There are coins for
1, 2 and 5 Nuevos Soles and 50, 20, 10 and 5 céntimos. You
can change dollars at a bank or withdraw money from an ATM with
your credit card. Be sure to have some coins and small bills with
you to pay for taxis and buses, food, etc. Some stores and larger
hotels accept credit cards, especially in Cusco.
5.- What should I do if my luggage is lost?
If you can't find your luggage, you have to fill out a luggage
claim form at the airline counter. Please tell our staff member
or host family that picks you up and they can assist you. In the
unlikely case that your luggage has not arrived, please don't worry.
Fill out all the necessary papers and write in the school's address
as well as the contact information of your host family. We will
help you to get your luggage and assist as your translator if you
are not yet fluent in Spanish.
6.- On which day should I arrive in Cusco?
Try to arrive on a Saturday or Sunday prior to the beginning
of the lessons with PROYECTO PERU. There is no problem if you arrive
any day of the week; we are always flexible.
7.- Do you arrange arrival services in Lima?
Yes, PROYECTO PERU offers a Lima Pick -up Package for the convenience
of our students and volunteers. Our Lima agent will pick you up
from the airport and bring you to a nice and safe hotel for the
night. The next day you will be taken back to the airport for your
flight to Cusco. Upon request, extra days in Lima can be added,
e.g. to take a city tour and/or visit the famous Gold Museum. We
can also arrange local flights for you.
